After attending Greenbrier Military School, Joseph Holt came to W&L where he was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa. After earning his law degree and being recognized with the Order of the Coif, he worked in the legal departments of RCA, Investors Diversified Services, and the Securities and Exchange Commission before returning to West Virginia to practice law as a prosecuting attorney. He died in 1964 as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.
