See below for answers to common questions for the Leadership Excellence Awards.
Individual Awards are presented to a student, faculty, or staff member, while Group Awards are presented to student clubs or organizations. Each award, Individual or Group, is presented to the finalist who most strongly exemplifies the spirit and characteristics associated with the given award.
Congratulations! Being nominated for an award means that someone in the W&L community submitted a nomination on your or your organization’s behalf. They believed you were deserving of recognition and to be considered for the award.
Each Award has its own point of contact, selection committee, and criteria to determine the recipients each year. The information for each award can be found on our Awards Description page.
Yes! We welcome self-nominations for both individual and group awards.
Congratulations (again)! Being a finalist for an award means that you were nominated AND the selection committee associated with the award(s) for which you were nominated felt that you were a strong contender. Many awards have multiple finalists, and all finalists are invited to the Awards Ceremony to be recognized for their contributions.
All finalists for each Individual and Group Award are invited, along with 3 representatives from each student organization. We encourage student organizations to have a first-year student, advisor, and student leader be their 3 representatives. Each award point of contact is also invited, and typically presents the award to the recipient(s).
