Student Wellness

At W&L, we believe that students are successful when they have all the outlets they need for wellness. That’s why in addition to our academic support, we offer an array of wellness programming as well as modern fitness facilities and opportunities for our students’ many health needs outside of the classroom.

Wellness Programming

Nutrition

W&L’s dining services team is committed to preparing food that is fresh, never-frozen and hand-crafted from the highest quality ingredients. We source significant portions of our food from local farmers and growers, including produce from W&L’s own Campus Garden, and emphasize fresh, local and healthy options.

Counseling Services

W&L has counseling staff available to help students with a variety of difficulties that might impact not only a student’s academic work, but an overall sense of well-being. In addition to licensed professionals, our peer connectors are students trained to help students navigate the challenges of college life.

Health Promotion

The Office of Health Promotion provides students with information about alcohol and other drugs; sexuality issues including sexual misconduct and sexual harassment; nutrition; stress management; and mental health issues such as depression and eating disorders. The goal of the office is to encourage students to make safe choices by having science-based information.

Student Support Groups

W&L also offers several student-centric support groups, comprised mainly of peers, to support each other in times of crisis, self-discovery, questioning and recovery, including: sober living; LGBTQ+ identity and support; gender identity; mindful eating; depression and anxiety; and sexual assault recovery.

Fitness Facilities

The Fitness Center

W&L’s fitness center, which is equipped with cardio and strength equipment, contains everything you need for a full-body workout. Its hours of operation are generous, so you can hit the treadmill early in the morning, after class, or once your homework is complete. If you don’t know how to use the fitness equipment, Fitness Center employees can teach you how to use a specific piece of equipment or teach you how to develop a fitness circuit.

Natatorium (Swimming Complex)

The W&L natatorium contains an eight-lane stretch pool, team locker rooms, a wet classroom and spectator seating. The pool, which holds 589,000 gallons of water, uses a UV system to treat the water and a filtration system that refreshes every drop of water in the pool every four hours.

Cannan Green

Located on the lawn in front of the gymnasium, Cannan Green is a hub of outdoor recreation and activities. Ultimate frisbee, soccer, martial arts demonstrations, and even fly-fishing all have a place on the Green.

Group Exercise

Group Exercise courses, which are held throughout the campus recreation areas, work just like group fitness courses you might have at your local gym. With Zumba, TRX and even morning yoga and pilates, there is a class for participants at all activity levels.
