2 year full-time temporary contract position – Commence Monday 29 January 2024
Reporting to the Director of Co-curricular, through the Head of Sport, the Head of Football will be responsible for the overall management, promotion and development of the College’s Football Program from Year 5 to Year 12.
This position will be expected to both lead, develop and implement strategies to promote and improve Football at the College in addition to coordinating the activities of the College’s Football program to ensure the sport is carried out efficiently and effectively. Thus, it is expected you will be leading training sessions; monitoring student attendance; attending all trials and trial fixtures games and tours; managing the appointment of Football referees for fixtures; providing weekly reports and summary of results; ensuring grounds are prepared for games; and, equipment is available and distributed.Ìý
Ultimately, we would like to ensure that we continue to have a Football Program that is unique to St Patrick’s College, and one that provides boys and coaches a well organised and administered program in addition to a practical, functional and achievable pathway to achieve both individual and team success and enjoyment.Ìý
Key Responsibilities
- To develop a St Patrick’s Football curriculum / program for ages 10 – 18 that all College Football coaches, and their teams are to follow.Ìý
- Oversee the implementation of the Football curriculum / program and monitor its effectiveness regularly.
- Cultivate and manage the implementation of a progressive skill, training and testing program for all ages and levels.
- Coordinate the activities of the College’s Football program to ensure the sport is carried out efficiently and effectively.
- Recommend to the Head of Sport the list of Coaching Staff.
- Identify Football coaching staff needs and facilitate appropriate skill development.
- Provide coaches with a range of resources including sessions run by internal and/or external skill development coaches.Ìý
- To develop long term plans for Football as required.
- To assist, lead and motivate the Coaches and the boys to achieve their best.
- Ensure compliance matters pertaining to coaches are met and records kept in consultation with the Director of Human Resources, Risk and Governance, and Director of Co-curricular.
You will be able to demonstrate you satisfy the following essential selection criteria:
Essential Criteria
- AFC B Level qualifications as a minimumÂ
- Experience in a similar role and/or ability to provide leadership to the Football Program for both on field performance as well as off field team building and cohesion
- Extensive knowledge of technical and tactical strategies in coaching Football
- Extensive working knowledge of concussion and serious injury response and management
- Ability to use an objective, standardised method for selecting player
- Excellent planning, organisation, coordination and problem-solving skills
- Excellent administration and written communication skills
- Ability to exercise substantial independent judgement and initiative
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build strong and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders
- Ability to maintain an environment in which all students participate enthusiastically and where they strive to excel
- Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance
- First Aid qualifications or a willingness to undertake

The emphasis for this position is in developing teacher capacity to plan for the teaching of students with a variety of learning needs. You will collaborate with classroom teachers from Year 7 to Year 12 in planning for and delivering well-balanced programs and making suitable adjustments for students with additional learning and support needs. You will have responsibility for some administrative aspects of learning intervention, such as NCCD, disability provisions and development of personal learning plans.ÌýYou will be committed to the achievement of excellence, a strong collaborator and confident in using effective pedagogy and classroom management. As a secondary teacher in the technologies, you will be committed to the achievement of excellence as a classroom teacher and thrive on both the creativity and practical challenges associated with teaching a range of cutting-edge subjects within the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) suite of offering from Year 7 to Year 12. In looking toward 2024, this will include subjects such as Technology (Stage 4), Computing Technologies (Stage 5) and Design and Technology (Stage 5 and Stage 6), however there is scope, depending upon the skills and interest area of the successful applicant to expand beyond this into other areas such as Industrial Technology – Timber or Engineering.
This position will suit an experienced teacher or equally be a tremendous opportunity for a student nearing completion of their degree (final internship) or a recent graduate who wishes to work with state-of-the-art facilities and gain valuable experience working in a well-supported, experienced and collegial TAS faculty.
