The College has two groups dedicated to justice, peace and advocacy for students.聽 These groups are recognised Co-curricular activities and are also open to all students with a passion for living their faith and sense of justice.聽 These groups allow students to broaden their world view and work for those who live on the margins, enhancing not only their own lives, but all aspects of their curriculum. Their time in these groups allow for greater understanding of advocacy and their role in building a better world for all.
The groups answer the call to fulfil our Mission of liberating 鈥渢he whole person and educates for resilient and spirited men who are challenged to serve.鈥�
Social Justice Action Group (SJAG)
The Social Justice Action Group (SJAG) is the College鈥檚 primary organisation for action on all matters related to justice. It is open to students in Years 10 鈥� 12, with each year beginning in Term 4 and concluding at the end of Term 3. This group co-ordinates and leads the College in all campaigns, appeals and advocacy, including the Winter and Christmas Appeals, Reconciliation and Refugee Weeks, Detention for Detention, the Winter Sleep Out and Fair-Trade Fortnight, as well as brining attention to and emphasising climate justice. SJAG publish the It鈥檚 Time magazine twice a year for the whole College community, shining a light on those issues that are important for the community to know about.聽
Faith In Action Team (FIAT)
The Faith In Action Team (FIAT) is for students in Years 7 鈥� 9. This group involves a clear program of showing the deep relationship between our faith and the action for justice, a deeper connection than Humanism. It includes learning more about our Catholic Tradition in terms of spiritual development, liturgical practice and justice foundations and it engages students to be involved in actively preparing and participating in various initiatives around the College, including liaising with SJAG and different year groups.聽 Each term involves a different focus, from the Australian Catholic Bishops Social Justice Statement to leading for formation.聽
JUNIOR SCHOOL JUSTICE (JSJ)
The Junior School Justice (SJS) group is for students in Year 5 and Year 6 who are committed to making a difference and working for justice in the local, national and global communities. They gather each week and work on a program throughout the year that looks at different justice issues, specifically targeting their work to the Junior School. Their role is to work with SJAG and FIAT on various campaigns, and ensure that different initiatives and issues are broken open for Year 5 and Year 6 students to understand and respond accordingly. They are full of ideas and compassion and lead by example in the justice, peace and advocacy space.
